The ML 869A is a Class IIIa laser which is one of the most popular power classes used in educational institutions. It shares the features of the ML 800 series and adds the capability for amplitude modulation of the laser beam intensity at audio frequencies. It is unquestionably the best red light-producing laser in the product line.

The increased brightness can also help students make better holograms. Small movements or vibrations are less likely to blur the picture with the ML 869A's shorter exposure time.
